Holiday Porter

The holidays are fast approaching...

And when it comes to beer - being ahead of the game is key. You have to be brewing a few holidays ahead and that's exactly what we decided to do. We've never done a Holiday Porter yet and we decided that it was time we give something a try that had some holiday charm, with that nice warm pick-me-up that holiday brews tend to have. Want to know more about it? Read on!

Midwest Brewers Fest

Midwest Brewers Fest Image Great beer, good people and a lot of fun!

The first annual Midwest Brewers Fest made a name for itself in Plainfield Illinois this past weekend. Ean McNulty (Ean McNulty brewing) and I discussed going briefly the day before while at Bigsby's Pour House and the next day off we went with tickets in hand.

On the drive there we discussed various brew related topics ranging from what we were going to brew next to what the best sparging methods were; then we arrived.

Spotted Cow Clone

Spotted Cow Clone Image Since when do cows produce beer?

Ever since New Glarus came up with this awesome creamy beer that has a great bite and flavor to it!

This was my take on that beer, with a few little variations that the master brewer over at EanMcNulty Brewing tipped me off to. I actually had never had the 'real' spotted cow until a few weeks after we brewed this up!

Dragon's Milk

NewHolland Dragons Milk Image Dark and mysterious, like a dragon!

I imagine that if dragons were real that they'd be as dark and mysterious as books portray them. If that was the case than this beer would be aptly named. Very dark in color, strong in flavor and ubruptly straightforward. Again, all things you would probably consider atributes of a strong dragon if they were real. But does this beer live up to the fire breathing mythical creatures namesake or is it all smoke and mirrors?
